BonOSby Softloom

Order, pay, tear off a bon. A shawarma, crêpe, pizza, sandwich, grill or coffee counter has no tables to lay out and no recipe sheets, so we built it a program that does not ask about things it does not have.

What it looks like

Who it is for

For the shop that sells over a counter: shawarma, crêpes, pizza and sandwiches, chicken and grills, coffee and bakes. One shop, one Windows PC, and no internet.

What it does for you

  • 01

    Pay first, always

You ring it up, the customer pays, the bon prints. No open tabs, no pay later, nothing goes to the back before it has been paid for. One payment per bill, and the database will not hold a second one.

  • 02

“Being made”, on the till itself

After payment the order number appears in a strip across the top of the till. It is ready, you tap it, it goes. No kitchen screen, no second monitor to buy and mount on a wall.

  • 03

A menu with sizes and add-ons

Sections, items, sizes, add-ons. An item is available today or it is not — and so is a size, and so is a whole section. Close an add-on and nobody can sell it any more.

  • 04

You edit the paper that comes out of the printer

The customer bon, the kitchen copy, and whatever else you want after them. Each with its own printer, number of copies, paper width and what gets printed on it. From inside the program, without ringing anyone.

  • 05

Money out of the shop is money out of the drawer

You type what the shop paid for: a crate of tomatoes, a day’s labour, the electricity bill. The cash ones leave the open drawer at that moment, so the end-of-day report still matches what you count by hand.

  • 06

The shift, the drawer and the day’s close

Open a shift with a float, put cash in and take it out with a written reason, pull a reading at any time without closing. At the close you count the drawer, and the difference comes out attached to a person and a day.

For technical teams

  • One Windows application on the shop’s own PC, with its database beside it
  • No server and no connection: it does not use the internet to run, so nothing is uploaded and nothing waits
  • 58 mm and 80 mm thermal printers, each document with its own printer, copies and paper width
  • Backup and restore, with item images in a folder beside the database so the pair travels together

Common questions

When does it land?

It is still being built. The till, the menu, printing, shifts and expenses run here now; stock, points and reports are still to come. Put your name down and we will tell you the moment it opens, and we will not ask you for anything before then.

How is it different from RestaurantOS?

Size. RestaurantOS is for a restaurant with tables, waiters, recipes and delivery. BonOS is for a shop that sells over a counter, at about half the price. The simplicity is not a compromise, it is the product: a program that asks an owner about things they do not have will get used wrong, or not at all.

Does it suit a café?

Yes, and it is what replaced our café edition. Coffee sells over a counter exactly the way a sandwich does: a size, an add-on, a payment, a bon. Loyalty points for regulars are on the way.

What happens if the internet drops?

Nothing. It never uses it. All the data sits on the shop’s own machine, with backup and restore alongside it.

Not out yet.

We are still writing it. Leave your name and we will tell you the moment it opens, and we will not ask you for anything before then.
